Surgical Mishaps!

We were not surprised to read a report that surgical equipment has been mistakenly left inside more than 500 patients following NHS operations, according to data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.
Millions of pounds in compensation has been paid to 533 patients who have had equipment left inside them since 2005.The items left inside patients has included swabs, clips, needles and gauze.
“Patients deserve high quality healthcare from their NHS,” said a Department of Health spokesman. “The vast majority of the millions of people treated by the NHS every year experience good quality, safe and effective care.” However, if patients do not receive the treatment they should and mistakes are made, it is right that they are compensated and have access to legal representation”.
