ALDER HEY HOSPITAL DOCTOR REFERRED TO GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL

Alder Hey Hospital have today announced that 600 children, who had been investigated for hearing problems by an unnamed Doctor, will be asked to undergo further tests as concerns have been raised regarding potential failures to diagnose their condition.

The Doctor worked at the Hospital from 2007 to 2011 and an investigation was commenced in April 2011 when questions were raised regarding the accuracy of testing and diagnosis that had taken place.  Some 15,000 children’s files were reviewed and it has been necessary for letters to be sent for 600 children to be re-investigated.

The children involved were those who were being treated for long term hearing loss and whose conditions went undiagnosed or underestimated by the Doctor concerned.

A referral to the General Medical Council has been made and the Hospital has since apologised to the families involved.

If you are concerned about your child’s treatment, please do not hesitate to contact Goodmans Law
