CRIMINAL INJURIES (CICA)
The CICA or the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority is a government organisation that can pay money (compensation) to people who have been physically or mentally injured because they were the blameless victim of a violent crime. Unfortunately, this type of claim is becoming more commonplace in today’s society
If you have been the victim of any type of violence or physical attack contact the police immediately. Even if your injuries are only psychological, you should report the incident and instruct us straight away. ANY delay in reporting the assault may affect your entitlement to an award.
Unlike most other personal injury awards, the time limit for making a claim is 2 years.
Recent amendments to the scheme also allow claims for compensation to be made if you are injured because of an act of Terrorism abroad.
Not all CICA claims require a Solicitor to act, though it is recommended for more serious injuries.
